The Extended Archive – Distillery 23

This work is about the transience of clubs as a socio-cultural melting pot and their historical significance for the cityscape.
To this end, I am designing a digital exploration space using photogrammetry and virtual reality to make a place that has disappeared accessible to the public again.
The venue is the techno club „Distillery“ on Kurt-Einsner-Straße in Leipzig, which opened its doors to guests for the last time on 31 May 2023.

The site, which has grown with its guests, employees and surroundings since 1995, will make way for a housing project by the city of Leipzig.
With this work, I take up the current topic of the displacement of social spaces in the public sphere, which is bringing about serious changes in public life far beyond the borders of Germany.
The aim of the work is to portray clubs in their important social function as places of shared experience, as shelters for socially marginalised groups and as places of artistic and political exchange.
